Breed Nature and Personality)
The English bulldog has a sweet, gentle disposition. Dependable and predictable, the bulldog is a fabulous family pet and fond of most children. People oriented as a breed, they actively seek human attention. However, they have retained the courage that was originally bred into them for bull baiting, making them fine watchdogs and home protectors. Although they generally get along capably with other family pets, English bulldogs can be unpredictable to unfamiliar dogs. English bulldogs make fine apartment pets and do not require a backyard. They are typically low energy dogs and only a moderate amount of exercise.
Unfortunately Bulldogs have various health problems an owner and prospective buyer should be aware of. These may include cardiac and respiratory disease, hip dysplasia, conjunctivitis, and other problems. They are extremely susceptible to heat, and their breathing is noisy and laboured. Bulldogs can easily drown in swimming pools or other water, and may require daily cleaning of their skin folds to avoid crusting and infections. Bulldogs have a life expectency of 8-10 years old.
Conclusion)
Much like a Pug, many people say the beauty of a Bulldog lies in the eye of the beholder. A sweet and gentle dog, and great for people living in small homes or apartments. In respect to exercise they are very low maintenance, but this comes at a cost with inherent health problems.
